Vehicle details
The i3 is a four-seat electric hatchback developed for urban driving. A carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic passenger cell sits above an aluminium structure carrying the underfloor battery. Its electric motor drives the rear wheels, while rear-hinged back doors and the absence of a B-pillar provide access to the rear seats. The initial 2013 version combines a 22 kWh gross battery with a 125 kW motor. The optional Range Extender adds a 647 cc two-cylinder petrol engine to extend driving range.
