Bel Air Convertible

A five-seat Bel Air combining a folding roof with V8 power.

Selected generation models, including overseas specifications

Vehicle details

The Bel Air Convertible used a folding roof rather than the fixed structures of the sedan and hardtop. Two doors and front and rear seats accommodated five, with a broad opening above the cabin when the roof was lowered. The 1955-model V8 version drove the rear wheels with a 265-cubic-inch overhead-valve engine. Its standard two-barrel carburetor configuration could use a three-speed manual, while an automatic was also available. The curved windshield, extensive chrome and low side profile suited the relaxed cruising character of a mid-1950s American convertible.
