Vehicle details
The Beretta entered general retail sale in 1987 as Chevrolet’s front-wheel-drive coupe. A low hood, sloping windshield and sweeping roofline shaped a notchback body with a separate rear trunk. Two doors gave access to five seats arranged as two in front and three in the rear. The base engine for 1988 was the electronically fuel-injected 2.0-liter LL8 inline-four, rated at 90 SAE net horsepower. A five-speed manual drove the front wheels, with an automatic also available. Buyers could alternatively choose a more powerful 2.8-liter multiport-injected V6. The standard model and GT equipment package shared the same coupe body, with a full-length floor console inside. Using a compact front-wheel-drive layout distinct from the Camaro, the Beretta broadened Chevrolet’s sporty passenger-car range.
