Vehicle details
The Bolt EV was a battery-electric passenger car first delivered to US customers in 2016. Unlike the similarly named plug-in Volt, it operated without a gasoline engine, relying entirely on its battery and electric motor. The 2017 model used a 60 kWh underfloor battery and a 150 kW motor driving the front wheels. Short body overhangs around a relatively long wheelbase and a tall roof provided space for five within compact exterior dimensions. Positioning the battery beneath the cabin helped create a flat interior floor and a low center of gravity. A rear hatch and split-folding back seat accommodated everyday luggage and larger loads. Regenerative braking recovered energy during deceleration, and a steering-wheel paddle let the driver request regeneration directly. Digital instruments and a large center display presented charge status, remaining range and vehicle settings. Combining extended electric travel with small-car practicality, it established an important dedicated battery-electric model family for Chevrolet.
