A 1990s full-size sedan combining rounded styling with V8 power and rear-wheel drive.
Selected generation models, including overseas specifications
Vehicle details
This Caprice replaced the preceding generation’s angular appearance with a rounded nose and a smoothly flowing roofline. Four doors, a long body and front and rear bench seats provided room for six. The standard 1996 engine was a 4.3-liter V8, while the optional 5.7-liter LT1 V8 used sequential fuel injection and a four-speed automatic. A long wheelbase and broad cabin suited relaxed passenger carrying and longer trips. It shared its basic body with the separate high-performance Impala SS, while the regular Caprice emphasized space and comfortable everyday driving.
