Vehicle details
Introduced in 1982, the Celebrity was Chevrolet’s midsize passenger car. In contrast to the older rear-wheel-drive midsize layout, it placed its engine transversely at the front and drove the front wheels to make effective use of cabin space. The early range included a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan; the sedan combined a separate trunk with two rows of seats. Its base 1983 specification paired the electronically fuel-injected 2.5-liter LR8 inline-four with an automatic transaxle. This engine produced 92 SAE net horsepower and 134 lb-ft of torque. A 2.8-liter gasoline V6 and a 4.3-liter V6 diesel offered alternative powertrains. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and MacPherson-strut front construction were part of its layout. The Celebrity represents Chevrolet’s move toward front-wheel-drive American midsize family cars.
