Vehicle details
Introduced for sale in autumn 1967, this Chevelle was a fully redesigned midsize passenger-car range using two wheelbases according to body type. The shorter wheelbase emphasized two-door passenger-car proportions, while the longer version addressed the space requirements of sedans and wagons. This Sport Coupe used a fixed roof and two doors. Front and rear seats accommodated five, while its descending roof and pronounced rear body emphasized the personal-coupe character. The base six-cylinder for 1968 was the 230-cubic-inch Turbo-Thrift overhead-valve engine. A single-barrel carburetor supported 140 gross horsepower, with a three-speed manual driving the rear wheels. Automatic transmissions and several V8 engines broadened the range from practical family cars to performance-oriented models. Malibu and other equipment grades varied in interior, exterior and equipment while sharing their underlying bodies and chassis. This generation was an important redesign of Chevrolet’s midsize accommodation and coupe styling.
