Vehicle details
Cobalt succeeded Cavalier in Chevrolet’s North American compact-car range. The sedan went on sale in 2004, using smoothly connected body surfaces, a separate trunk and seating for five. Its Delta architecture combined front struts with a rear torsion beam, with an emphasis on body stiffness and cabin quietness. The base 2.2-liter Ecotec used an aluminum block and cylinder head, DOHC 16-valve construction and sequential multi-port injection. In the 2005 base sedan, a five-speed manual drove the front wheels, with an automatic also available. Alongside the related coupe, it marked Chevrolet’s attempt to offer a more refined everyday compact while retaining the practical role of an economical commuter.
