Corvair Sedan

An early Chevrolet compact sedan with a rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-six engine.

Selected generation models, including overseas specifications

Vehicle details

The original Corvair brought a distinctive rear-engine layout to the American compact car. An air-cooled flat-six and rear transaxle drove the rear wheels, leaving a luggage compartment at the front. Unitized construction accompanied independent suspension at all four wheels. The 1960-model four-door sedan seated six and used a standard 140-cubic-inch engine with a three-speed manual. Later coupe and open-top versions broadened its character, while the early sedan reflected its origins as an economical compact family car.
