Vehicle details
The second Corvair Sport Sedan used four doors and pillarless hardtop styling. The 1965 500 Sport Sedan seated six on front and rear benches and carried luggage ahead of its rear-mounted engine. An air-cooled flat-six and rear-wheel drive were retained, with a redesigned independent rear suspension replacing the previous arrangement. The standard 164-cubic-inch engine used two single-barrel carburetors and was advertised at 95 gross horsepower. This representative specification paired it with a three-speed manual, distinct from optional higher-output engines and automatic transmissions.
