Vehicle details

First sold in 2009, this Equinox introduced a new body and powertrain range for Chevrolet’s five-seat crossover. A four-cylinder engine appeared in the nameplate for the first time alongside a separate V6 option, giving buyers a choice between everyday efficiency and greater output. The standard 2010 engine was a direct-injected 2.4-liter Ecotec with variable valve timing, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive was also offered. The rear seat slid fore and aft and had an adjustable backrest angle, allowing occupants to balance rear legroom and luggage space. Split-folding backrests extended the cargo area forward from the rear hatch. Independent suspension at both ends and electric steering assistance accompanied frontal, side-impact and head-curtain airbags and electronic stability control from the base grade. By broadening the previous model’s larger-engine approach with efficient four-cylinder power, this major generation further established the Equinox as a mainstream Chevrolet family crossover.
