Vehicle details
This Malibu brought GM’s Epsilon architecture to the North American midsize sedan market. A front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout supported seating for five and a separate trunk. MacPherson-strut front suspension, a four-link independent rear suspension and electric power steering balanced ride comfort with ease of use. The base 2005 sedan paired a 2.2-liter DOHC four-cylinder with a four-speed automatic; LS and LT versions used a 3.5-liter V6. Compared with the related Malibu Maxx, it had a shorter wheelbase and a conventional sedan cabin and trunk, retaining the familiar layout of a family passenger car.
