Vehicle details
The original Monte Carlo was a two-door coupe emphasizing personal luxury. A long hood, comparatively compact cabin and formal roofline gave it proportions distinct from a family sedan. It shared structural roots with the Chevelle range but used a longer wheelbase, with V8 power driving the rear wheels. The standard 1970-model 350-cubic-inch engine used a two-barrel carburetor; automatic transmissions were offered alongside the three-speed manual. Its combination of comfort, visual presence and V8 choices made it a characteristic American personal coupe.
