Vehicle details
Introduced in fall 1974, the Monza 2+2 was Chevrolet’s small sporty hatchback. A long nose, low sweeping roof and rear opening incorporating the glass gave it a different character from a conventional small sedan. Two front bucket seats and two rear places provided seating for four, with luggage access through the hatch. Its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout used a 97-inch wheelbase and a torque-arm rear suspension. In the 1976 federal-market base version, a 140-cubic-inch OHC four-cylinder paired with a three-speed manual. An optional two-barrel four-cylinder and V8 gave the range room to bridge economical small-car transport and sporty coupe appeal.
