Vehicle details
The S-10 was Chevrolet’s US-built compact pickup introduced for sale in 1981. A separate cabin and cargo bed within a more manageable body than a traditional full-size pickup supported personal travel and light hauling. The early regular cab used two doors and a single row of seating, with short or long beds available around the same cabin. Its base engine for 1982 was the 1.9-liter LR1 inline-four with a two-barrel carburetor, producing 82 SAE net horsepower. A fully synchronized four-speed manual with a floor shifter drove the rear wheels. A 2.8-liter V6 was also available for buyers seeking more output. Independent front suspension used coil springs, while a leaf-sprung rear axle addressed load-carrying duties. Front disc and rear drum brakes accompanied a steel frame to form the compact truck’s basic working layout. It was the starting model of Chevrolet’s established S-10 compact-pickup family.
