Vehicle details
Introduced in 1949, the Styleline belonged to the new passenger-car range that replaced Chevrolet’s carried-over prewar body design. Front fenders blended into the doors, and a wider passenger compartment moved forward within a lower, more unified shape. This family sedan offered four doors and front and rear bench seats for six. Rear occupants had direct access through their own doors, with a separate trunk behind the passenger cabin. Its 1949 Thrift Master engine was a 216.5-cubic-inch overhead-valve inline-six rated at 90 gross horsepower. A steering-column lever operated the three-speed manual transmission, which drove the rear wheels. The shared powertrain served multiple bodies for family transport and personal-car use. Special and De Luxe equipment levels differed in trim and interior appointments, separately from the underlying body distinctions. This body family played an important role in establishing Chevrolet’s postwar passenger-car design.
