This Suburban generation was a full-size SUV designed to carry passengers and luggage in a long body. A separate truck-derived frame supported a three-row cabin seating up to nine, depending on configuration. Independent front suspension used coil springs, while the 1500 rear axle was located by five links with coils. The 2007-model 5.3-liter V8 featured Active Fuel Management, deactivating cylinders under suitable driving conditions, and paired with a four-speed automatic. Rear-wheel-drive, four-wheel-drive and heavier-duty 2500 models broadened the range.
