Vehicle details

The second Cortina developed the practical family-car formula of the original into a wider, more angular body. Its two-door sedan has a fixed roof over the rear seats and a separate luggage compartment, while four-door and estate versions broadened the range. The standard 1.3-litre inline-four uses overhead valves and a crossflow cylinder head, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. MacPherson struts with coil springs support the front, with a rear axle carried on semi-elliptic leaf springs. Its straightforward mechanical layout and varied equipment choices made it suitable for commuting and family travel.
