Vehicle details
Sold from 2000, the Escape added a smaller body and everyday versatility to Ford’s SUV range. It combines unibody construction with independent suspension at all four wheels. Front-wheel drive is the basic layout, with an available four-wheel-drive system that distributes torque as traction changes. The rear liftgate has separately opening glass, and the rear seat folds in a 60:40 split to expand cargo space. In the 2006 XLS, the standard 2.3-liter Duratec inline-four is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. A 3.0-liter V6 and automatic transmission provide another powertrain choice. Its elevated seating and compact body combine everyday driving with the load-carrying usefulness of an SUV.
