Vehicle details
Introduced in 2007, this Escape emphasizes its SUV character with large headlamps, an upright grille and squared-off bodywork. Front-wheel drive is the standard layout, accompanied by four-wheel independent suspension and electric power steering. Separately opening liftgate glass allows access for small items. The 2012 XLS uses a 2.5-liter Duratec inline-four and five-speed manual transmission. A 60:40 split-folding rear seat adapts the cabin to different combinations of passengers and luggage. V6, four-wheel-drive and hybrid versions were also available in the same body range. Electronic stability and roll-control functions support its role in everyday passenger transport and recreation.
