Vehicle details
This European Escort uses an angular hatchback body with a short rear overhang. Its tailgate opens together with the rear window, making the compact body easier to load. Front-wheel drive and a four-speed manual transmission work with MacPherson-strut front suspension and an independent rear suspension. The 1.3-litre CVH engine uses an overhead camshaft, a carburettor and electronic ignition. A folding rear seat turns passenger space into a larger luggage area, while a separate estate and the sporty XR3 broadened the range.
