Vehicle details
Introduced in late 1954, the original Fairlane was the upper full-size line in Ford’s passenger-car range. The Town Sedan provided four doors and a fixed roof for convenient access to both seating rows. A wraparound windshield, lower body and sweeping side trim reflected Ford’s Thunderbird-influenced design direction. Its front-mounted Y-block OHV V8 drives the rear wheels through a three-speed manual, with dual exhausts fitted to Fairlane V8 models. A separate frame supports independent coil-spring front suspension and a leaf-sprung rear axle. Optional power steering, assisted brakes, power windows and a power seat emphasized convenience.
