Vehicle details
The new Fairlane arrived in autumn 1965 as Ford’s midsize passenger car, smaller than its full-size range and offered as sedans, hardtops, convertibles and wagons. The two-door hardtop combines a lower roof, two doors and a long rear deck for a different character from the sedan. The 500 hardtop provided seating for six, while the XL introduced a bucket-seat arrangement. A longitudinal front engine drives the rear wheels, with a 289 OHV V8 and three-speed manual among the available combinations. Choices ranging from an inline-six to larger V8s bridged everyday family motoring and stronger performance. The GT and GTA developed the performance side of the range further.
