Vehicle details
Introduced in 1977, the Fairmont two-door sedan has rectilinear bodywork and a separate trunk. Despite its two side doors, the 1979 US specification provides seating for five. It shares its wheelbase with the four-door sedan and uses restrained trim and clean window lines. The standard powertrain combines a DuraSpark-ignition 2.3-liter four-cylinder with a floor-shifted four-speed synchronized manual transmission. Coil springs at both ends, a four-link rear layout, front disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering complete the chassis. Low-back bucket seats, carpeting and a separate luggage compartment suit everyday passenger and luggage duties.
