Vehicle details
Introduced in 1959, the Falcon places family-sedan seating and a separate trunk in a body smaller than Ford’s contemporary full-size cars. The four-door sedan provides separate front and rear doors and room for six occupants. The base US specification for 1963 uses a carbureted 144.3-cubic-inch OHV inline-six and a three-speed synchromesh manual transmission. That year, the wider Falcon range included two- and four-door sedans and wagons, along with hardtops and convertibles. A compact exterior, useful passenger room and a straightforward inline-six powertrain focus on everyday family travel. The model later provided the basis for the Mustang and occupies an important place in Ford’s compact-car history.
