Vehicle details
Entering production in 1976, the original Fiesta was a three-door hatchback developed for Europe’s small-car market. Its engine is mounted transversely beneath a short bonnet and drives the front wheels, leaving more room for passengers within the compact body. A tailgate that opens with the rear glass and a folding rear seat help it carry everyday loads. The 1.1-litre inline-four petrol engine works with a four-speed manual gearbox, rack-and-pinion steering and front-disc/rear-drum brakes. Economy and practicality were central to its design, with a range extending from straightforward versions to more richly equipped models.
