Vehicle details
Arriving in the second half of 1978, the new Mustang adopted angular bodywork and rectangular headlamps that distinguished it from its predecessor. The three-door model has a lifting rear hatch incorporating the sloping rear window, while its folding rear seat connects the cabin and load area. Front bucket seats and a rear bench provide four seats, combining sporting looks with everyday use. The base powertrain consists of a front-mounted 2.3-liter OHC inline-four and floor-shifted four-speed manual. Coil springs and links locate the rear axle, which drives the rear wheels. Turbocharged four-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines and a separate two-door body broadened the range.
