Vehicle details
Introduced in 1970, the Pinto is a small Ford passenger car with compact dimensions and a straightforward mechanical layout. The original two-door sedan has a descending roofline and a separate trunk. The base 1971 US specification uses a Kent OHV four-cylinder described by the manufacturer as 1600 cc, a single-barrel carburetor and a four-speed manual transmission. Rack-and-pinion steering and a short wheelbase suit its small footprint. Front bucket seats and a rear seat provide passenger accommodation, while an optional folding rear seat expands luggage space. A separate 2000 cc OHC engine and automatic transmission were also offered. A simple cabin and accessible maintenance layout emphasize basic everyday mobility.
