First sold in 1992, this Probe is a three-door sports coupe with a low, smooth body and pop-up headlamps. A tailgate that opens with the rear glass and 50:50 split-folding rear seats provide useful load access within its coupe silhouette. The 1996 Australian specification has a 2497 cc V6 with an aluminum block and heads, belt-and-gear-driven double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. Sequential multipoint fuel injection accompanies a standard five-speed manual transmission, with an electronically controlled four-speed automatic available. Independent strut suspension at both ends, speed-sensitive power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS complete the chassis. A low driving position, sports seats and flexible rear seating combine driving enjoyment with everyday convenience.
