Vehicle details
First sold in 1995, this American midsize Taurus sedan develops the rounded appearance of earlier models into a more pronounced design theme. An oval rear window and side glazing combine with long, smooth body lines. The 1998 LX uses a 12-valve OHV 3.0-liter V6 and an electronically controlled four-speed automatic overdrive transaxle. Its unitized body combines strut-type front suspension with an independent Quadralink rear layout. Separate SE Sport and Comfort configurations offered the 24-valve DOHC Duratec V6, while the high-performance SHO used a 3.4-liter V8. This generation retained the practical family-sedan role while adopting a distinctive exterior and interior character.
