Vehicle details
Production of the original two-seat Thunderbird began in 1954. A long hood and low body surround a water-cooled OHV V8 driving the rear wheels. It combined open-air motoring with everyday passenger-car comfort, helping establish its character as a personal luxury car. A removable hardtop also allowed it to serve as a closed-roof car. Although it shared the two-seat layout of the competing Corvette, the Thunderbird developed a distinct emphasis on comfort and relaxed motoring.
