Samsung Motors entered Korea’s automotive industry before the Asian financial crisis. Renault acquired its automotive operations in 2000, beginning the Renault Samsung Motors period. Samsung Motors, Renault Samsung Motors and the later Renault Korea name represent distinct stages of that business.
