A combined gasoline and electric powertrain
Kia’s 1.6 T-GDI hybrid combines a turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The system selects or combines the two power sources according to driving conditions and recovers some braking energy through regeneration.
Combined system output is not simply the sum of the engine and motor peak ratings: their operating speeds and available battery power matter. This entry describes a Kia application of a shared Hyundai–Kia engine family.
